Leading the Diversity Charge for Real Estate with Lennox Scott

Hide Details33min 51s

Recently, national news headlines have brought to light an alarming accusation of race-based real estate value inequity in the appraisal industry: A black family’s home value increased a whopping $300,000, after their first appraisal, by “white-washing” their home and having a white friend answer the door on the day of the appraisal. Unfortunately, this is not the only recent case of real estate value inequity. In today’s episode, Jess is joined by Lennox Scott, chairman, and CEO of John L. Scott Real Estate, one of the largest and most successful regional real estate firms in the United States across the Pacific Northwest and into California. Lennox is currently the vice chair of the National Association for Realtors and is a tireless advocate for diversity training within the real estate industry. Lennox and Jess emphasize the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the industry, now more than ever, in the wake of the racial atrocities that have occurred over the past few years.

Today on Million Dollar Question:

  • How Lennox became a leader of diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Undoing the long history of racist language in property documents
  • New systems in place to encourage diversity, equity and inclusion
  • What needs to happen moving forward
